Knowledge: what "less" brings about.

A while ago, I wrote that "less" might bring about something that can contribute to "more".

What is it?

I believe that it's "knowledge."

I think "knowledge" is the single most important thing that brings about "more" in our life.

(How to define "more" is an another interesting topic but I will leave it to other articles in the future.)

If we take a look at things around us, every man-made objects are products of knowledge.

All those things that affect our lives: goods and services, social system, political institutions, laws, norms, are the product of knowledge.

Moreover, how we feel about our lives is also a product of knowledge in a sense that how we feel is strongly affected by social norms or common sense.

(For example, in a modern world, people might feel happy when they have many materialistic goods. However, in a society where the notion of ownership is considered to be a representation of greed, people might not feel that way.)

It is not an exaggeration to say that knowledge is what decides our lives and how the world is.

                                              • -

However, since knowledge is intangible and invisible, it is hard to realize the importance of it.

When I was in graduate school, one of the professors told me "we are producing knowledge. We have to be responsible for the knowledge that we are producing."

This keeps ringing in my head.

Just as TOYOTA has to be responsible for their cars, we need to be responsible for our knowledge that we are producing.

If TOYOTA delivers cars with defects, it might cause fatal accidents.

Same thing.

If we produce erroneous knowledge, it might kill some people.

As history shows, wrong ideas and thoughts led to thousands of casualties.

Now, Im not an academician.

But in a sense that Im producing knowledge, it's the same thing.

Im always producing knowledge.

And I CAN always produce knowledge.

Even if I loose wealth, social status or materialistic goods, I can always produce knowledge.

What always saves me is knowledge.

So, I love knowledge.
