Being "LOGICAL"

It seems like being logical is really important in this society.

People are required to be logical from the early stage of their life such as in elementary schools or even in kindergartens.

"Explane it more logically" "Your reasoning is not logical"

Those phrases are repeated everywhere.

But what is "being logical" ??

I used to live in America for a while and came across several situations to re-think about this word "logical."

At that time in Japan, there was an unusual crime in which 14 years old boy killed a 11 years old boy and one fundamental question was getting popular in the society: "why shouldn't we kill people?"

When I asked this question to my friend, he answered

"Because the Bible says not to"

This shocked me a lot.
(I know that not all of the americans would answer in the same way)

In general, if people are asked this question in Japan, they would struggle to answer it looking for many "LOGICAL" reasonings.

"nobody should have rights to take other's life away"
"if killing is permitted, the society can't exist"

these are the general answer of japanese.

but for him, the answer "the Bible says not to" is the most "LOGICAL"reasoning.

What does this mean?

What I want to say is that the definition of "being logical" differs depending on the culture.

What is logical for him may not be logical for her.

Then, what is our society, the society in which the "LOGIC" seems to be the most important thing, is based on?

What should we follow as our benchmark?
