Risk (English)

It seems like the word "Risk" has different meanings depending on people who use it.

And especially in Japan, it seems like people are thinking that "Risk" is something to be completely eliminated.

But actually, we cannot completely eliminate risk.

Risk exists in our daily lives.

For example, if you walk on the street, there is a possibility of getting involved in accidents.
If you take airplane to travel, there is a possibility of airplane crash.
If you practice some sports, there is a possibility of physical injury.

The best way to completely avoid physical risk is to stay in the house all of their life and do nothing.

But if you do so, there is a possibility of mental illness.

No matter what you do, there is a risk. We cannot completely eliminate risk.

We travel abroad because we think that the experience of travelling abroad is so amazing that the risk of airplane crash is worth undertaking.

We enjoy walking because we think that the risk of getting involved in an accident is relatively lower compared to the joy of walking outside.

We always compare the risk with what we can obtain from taking that risk, consciously or unconsciously, and decide whether the risk is worth undertaking.

Now I am in Nicaragua to contribute to the poverty reduction here.

Of course I know that Nicaragua is dangerous compared to Japan.
( Homicide rate in Nicaragua is 30 times higher than that of Japan according to one statistic; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate )

But because I wanted to achieve certain things here, I decided to come here, judging that the risk is not that high compared to what I can obtain from working here.

We have to know that risk is something to control and judge rather than something to eliminate.

Some people say "What you are doing is too dangerous!! Stop it!!"

That might be true but maybe he dares to take that risk intentionally to get something more important.

Nobody can criticize Everest mountain climber.

Once, the CEO of Rakuten, inc said

"The highest risk in our life is to regret our life. We need to live everyday to avoid that highest risk."

We should be careful not to forget what the highest risk in our life is, blinded by the tiny risk in our daily lives, which are sometimes overestimated by medias or prestigious institutions.
